Slow response times to invalid requests (DNS checkup is horrible too!)

Using a 301 redirect on my website it slows my website down by 2.70 seconds.
This is a serious loss in conversions

Somthing seriously going wrong with the DNS and Name severs too.
How do i speed up the reponse time for the 301 redirect and or invalid
requests, see web page text 404 errors (i am aware of the favicon just
uploading once this is sorted)
